Manado, Sambit, Sangalaki & return

 

Sangalaki-Sambit-Maratua-Lembeh, 10 Days / 9 Nights

Starting with the amazing & diverse Islands of Sambit, Maratua, Sanglaki, & Kakaban.  Here you will find both large and small marine life in abundance; potential for thresher sharks, manta rays, white-tips & nurse sharks, huge schools of barracuda, many turtles, and even Whale Shark! Not to mention plenty of macro life to keep even the most experienced of divers happy.  Plus non-stinging jellyfish in the fresh water Lake of Kakaban.  Then we cross the Celebes Sea to finish with world famous muck diving in Lembeh.

Sample Itinerary

(All schedules are subjected to changes according to weather, sea, & diving conditions)

Day 1. (0-2 dives) by 5pm. Land transfer (2.5 hour)  from Berau Airport to Tg. Batu pier.  Sail from pier to Derawan. Warm welcome, briefing, and dinner; If everyone arrives earlier we may have time for a check dive & even night dive? (Cruise Leaders decision is final)

Day 2. (3-4 dives) Diving around Sangalaki looking for manta rays, turtles & more! We also have a chance to visit the beach to watch hatching baby turtles make their dash to the sea!

Day 3-4. (4 dives x2 days) Diving around Maratua island; huge schools of chevron barracudas, and big-eye jacks at the mouth of the channel.   Look out for the shark action with possible sightings of hammerhead sharks too!

Day 5. (3-4 dives) Diving around Kakaban with stunning wall dives & visiting the amazing fresh water Jellyfish lake.

Day 6. (4 dives) Diving around Sambit Island with it pristine corals, abundant marine life, and amazing visibility.  Heaps of turtles plus look in the blue for sharks & visiting whale shark!

Day 7. (2 dives) Looking for whale sharks at local fishing “bagans”.

Day 8. (3-4 dives) Muck Diving along Manado coastal Islands.

Day 9. (2 dives) Lembeh.  Best muck diving in the world. Plenty of time to wash & dry equipment, have lunch, and rest & relaxation. Last night sleeping onboard in harbour

Day 10. (0 dives) 6am-12am. Check out after breakfast, farewells, and transfer to airport.  Departure from Lembeh to local hotel or transfer to Manado Airport.

Embarkation / Disembarkation

  • From Tanjung Batu pier, Indonesia. Transfer 1 hour 30 minutes by car from Kalimarau Airport, Berau (BEJ), East Kalimantan
  • To Sam Ratulangi Airport, Manado (MDC)

How to get to Berau (BEJ), Indonesia

  • Daily flights from Singapore (SIN) or Jakarta (CGK) to Berau (BEJ) via Balikpapan (BPN) by Garuda Indonesia or Lion Air. Can fly with Silk Air but not daily.
  • We highly recommended to overnight in Balikpapan Airport Hotel and take one of the scheduled morning flights on Trip Departure day
  • Connecting flight to Berau via Balikpapan with Garuda Indonesia (09:00) or Lion Air (08:45 / 11:00) Sriwijaya Air (14:10)

How to get from Manado (MDC)

  • Raja Manta to Manado Airport.  Transfer to White Manta 1-2 hours.
  • Early morning with Lion Air back to Bali (via Surabaya) or with Garuda Indonesia back to Jakarta.
  • International, Silk Air back early afternoon direct to Singapore.

Trip Schedule

  • Departure; 5pm, 1st Day - Tg. Batu Pier, Indonesia. Or earlier if everyone arrives before. Free transfer from Kalimarau Airport, Berauvia overland transfer to Raja Manta on Trip Departure day.
  • Return; 6am, Last Day - Lembeh, North Sulawesi.  After breakfast and fond farewells, we take you to local Lembeh hotel or Sam Ratulangi Airport, Manado in time for Check-in & flight (transfer time 1-1.5 hours).  Latest RM Check-out midday, Trip Return day
  • Last dive ends; 12pm (midday), Penultimate Day.  Plenty of time for R&R while we sail back to Lembeh where we spend last night on Raja Manta. This also allows for your minimum 18 hours surface interval/ No Fly Time (as recommended by PADI) before flying next day.

  • What to See/ Highlights: Pelagic; Manta rays, hammerheads, barracuda, jacks, tuna, & more Reef; amazing soft corals, turtles, leopard & reef sharks, harlequin shrimps, pygmy seahorses, frogfish, ribbon eels, cuttlefish, nudis, & usual suspects

Domestic Flights

  • Please book BEFORE confirming your International flights to ensure you make your connection to & from start & end ports
  • Most Domestic airlines do not allow non-Indo credit card online payments. If you cannot book direct we have a local Indonesian travel agent, who are reliable and efficient and can help you with all flight & hotel needs. Their details on request. If booked with credit card please ensure the card is with you upon Check In or have an official Airline form filled in & signed by card holder authorizing the use of.
  • Our ticketing agents are not responsible for any flight delay or cancellation, luggage lost or delay. In any case, please contact our ground staff in Bali for assistance for flight delay issue.
  • Early Arrivals; we can help recommend local hotels where we can pick you up on Trip Departure day. If needed transfers can be arranged for a nominal fee. Day of trip all included.
  • Luggage Allowance; most airlines allow 10-20kg/pax check, & 7kg carryon.  Additional weight is charged per/kilo (USD2-3/kilo). Maximum allowance between 20-30kg. Check the link for more details and additional flight info. Consult with our Travel Agent or Airline carrier (if booking directly) for actual details.
  • Jakarta (CGK);if you are travelling via Jakarta someInternational & Domestic flights do not always arrive/depart from same terminal building. If yours is one here is a useful Transfer link or if too late get a taxi for 50,000IDRp between terminals (10 mins transfer time).

Travel Documents

  • Visa Exemption or Visa on Arrival (VoA); many countries now receive a free 30 days on arrival, some pay USD35 to obtain VoA, others will have to obtain Visa BEFORE Arrival.
  • Passport; ensure your passport is in good order, has enough pages, is valid for at least 6 months, and that you are able to enter Indonesia.   Check with your local Indonesia Embassy if unsure.
  • Passport; REQUIRED please provide a scan of your Passport (face-page) in advance of the trip
  • Departure Tax; Indonesia Passenger Service Charge (IPSC) has changed (Mar-2015) to be included in your flight ticket price.  Please check though as previously it was 200,000IDRp to leave Indonesia, & up to 75,000IDRp for Domestic flights.  Carry small bills, Indonesia Rupiah preferred, as often no change given.

Health & Insurance

  • Dive Insurance; compulsory for this trip.  We also strongly advise you get adequate travel insurance. Please check your travel insurance policy for your diving needs.  If not covered them we recommend DAN (Divers Alert Network) or their Asia Pacific branch.
  • Dive Computer; compulsory on this trip.  We have rentals onboard if you do not have.
  • Follow Safe Diving Practices at ALL times plus No Deco Diving and No Solo Diving.
  • Travel Insurance; please NOTE: we cannot be held accountable for airline flight changes, delays, or cancellations.  We STRONGLY advise you take out adequate insurance to cover such eventualities.  We recommend World Nomad for their flexible worldwide cover for travel insurance.

Internet

  • Internet; No Wi-Fi onboard at this time.  You may sign up for local SIM card.  Local Telkomsel is best local card to buy.  Telkomsel simpati bsim card starts at only 3usd. Plus credit to add on top!!
  • Mobile/ Internet signal; not long after you leave port we have has intermittent/ limited mobile signal until we return.

Trip Extras payment onboard

  • Credit card; due to the very unreliable connections we are NO longer able to take ANY credit card
  • payments on this trip.  Please bring enough CASH to pay for any Trip Extras.  We accept US Dollars, Euro, Singaporean dollars, Indonesian Rupiah.  Please ensure ALL bills are in good order; NOT worn or torn and unmarked or we are UNABLE to accept.  Exchange rates differ for USD100/50 bills and USD20/10 bills. Current Exchange rate. ATMs are available in town.
  • Fuel Surcharge; NO fuel surcharge in place at this time but may be implemented to account for any wide fluctuations.
